Strawberry Picking

Public Picking:

Public picking runs 9 A.M - 5:50 P.M, seven days a week on availability of strawberries and weather. The strawberries depend on a great number of variables, requiring an adequate combination of temperature, sun, and rain, so if you are coming to the farm specifically to pick strawberries, make sure to call first to see if they are ripe and plentiful. The typical strawberry season begins around early March, and lasts to the middle or later weeks of May. Containers are provided for $1.00 and an additional $2.00 per pound of berries. Outside containers not allowed. Don't forget to bring your camera out to take some pictures.

Picking The Right Berry:

Be careful that your feet and knees do not damage plants or fruit in or along the edge of the row. Pick only the berries that are fully red. Part the leaves with your hands to look for hidden berries ready for harvest. Avoid placing the picked berries in the sunshine any longer than necessary.

It is better to put them in the shade of a tree or shed than in the car trunk or on the car seat. Cool them as soon as possible after picking. Strawberries may be kept fresh in the refrigerator for two or three days, depending upon the initial quality of the berry.
